What is ThermiSmooth?
This non-invasive skin smoothing procedure uses precise, gentle epidermal radiofrequency (RF) heating that many patients say feels like a warm massage. This unique procedure improves the appearance of skin by increasing collagen production for tighter, smoother skin. As gentle heat is applied to heat your skin to about 42 degrees, a unique process occurs within your skin. Heating causes inflammation, which stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen over time.
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that supports the skin and gives it elasticity. Over time, our collagen production decreases and the collagen we have breaks down, reducing the volume of the skin. This treatment not only offers immediate results but gradually improving results for a more rejuvenated appearance.
The ThermiSmooth Treatment
After an evaluation of your problem areas, we will schedule your tightening procedure. Prior to using the device, the treatment area will be cleansed and a gel will be applied to the skin.
Radiofrequency (RF) energy will be delivered by a termistor-controlled hand device, which delivers precise heating to the surface of your skin. The hand piece will be moved over the treatment area in a circular or sweeping motion, and the system will automatically adjust the temperature based on feedback from your skin. Small treatment areas take about five minutes. This skin tightening treatment is very gentle and you will not feel any pain. As your skin is heated, lines and creases will begin to smooth. Your surface skin temperature will be constantly monitored by an infrared heat sensor and cool compresses may be applied as necessary to avoid excessive heating.
The total treatment time will depend on the area of treatment, but typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. No sedation or anesthesia is used, and recovery is very quick.

Are You a Candidate?
As it is non-invasive, safe and painless, almost anyone who wishes to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and the tightness of their skin is a candidate for this procedure. Patients who have mild to moderate sagging or loose skin or mild to moderate wrinkles and lines will see the best results, however. It is also important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure, which is not equivalent to surgery.
Patients with indwelling pacemakers or other devices are not candidates for ThermiSmooth treatment.
ThermiSmooth Results and Recovery
You may see immediate improvement in the tightness of your skin. This procedure has virtually no down time as there are no incisions or anesthesia used. There is also no swelling or bruising after this skin tightening treatment.
Is TermiSmooth an alternative to surgery?
While Thermi-RF does offer clear, visible results, the outcome will not be equivalent to surgery. Depending on your desired outcome, the benefit you achieve through Thermi-RF may be sufficient, however. Patients who have mild sagging or loose skin may benefit from this non-invasive procedure rather than surgery.
How many skin tightening treatments will I need?
While a series of treatments is typically required the number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the skin laxity and wrinkles, and your desired results. Most patients see some improvement after their first treatment with full results developing over 3-6 months. Treatments may be repeated several times every 3-4 weeks. In most cases, 2-3 treatments are sufficient.
Is this procedure safe?
This skin tightening procedure is incredibly safe. As your skin is treated, the system automatically adjusts the temperature based on the response from your skin to prevent overheating.
