BBL™ Broad Band Light Sarasota

The treatment of sun damaged skin, age spots, and redness is now easier, with better results, than every before. BroadBand Light Therapy (BBL) technology can improve the look of the skin, and rejuvenate the appearance through a fast, painless treatment in the plastic surgeon’s office. The face, neck, arms, chest, and shoulders are the most commonly treated, because they receive the most damaging rays from the sun. The trunk, legs, lower back, and other areas of the body respond well to the BBL system, as well.

The innovative BBL Photorejuvenation procedure utilizes a one-of-a-kind flash dual lamp technology, emitting two condensed light beam to the targeted layer of skin. Using the pulsed light to target unwanted blue, brown, red, or purple pigment, heat is transferred under the skin to improve imperfections. Interchangeable smart filers, finesse adapters, and thermoelectric cooling to provide every patient with an individualized treatment. Different skin types, tones, and conditions can be treated safely and efficiently. Even hard to reach areas can easily be treated smoothing and completely.

Conditions that show dramatic result with the BBL include:

  • Dyschromia
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Vascular Lesions
  • Sun Damage
  • Melasma
  • Hemangiomas
  • Rosacea
  • Angiomas
  • Telangiectasia
  • Age Spots
  • Redness

A BBL treatment takes less then 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the area and level of correction needed. All BBL procedures are performed in the Holcomb and Kreithen Plastic Surgery office suite. The surgeon will first apply a topical numbing cream to the targeted area to increase the patient’s comfort level. Once the session begins, patients general feel a warm ‘flick’ in the treated area; this may be followed by a sunburn-like sensation. After the procedure, cool compresses and sunblock are applied to minimize discomfort.

After a BBL treatment, patients will commonly see small spots, similar to coffee grounds appear on the corrected area. Red pigmentation may disappear immediately, or turn a lighter color. Brown discoloration may take up to four weeks before a final result is apparent. Red spots and vessels will take approximately four months to be completely reabsorbed by the body. Sunblock should be worn daily after a treatment; this and makeup can be applied as soon as the day after the BBL procedure. While most areas will require more than one BBL treatment, significant results can be seen after the initial procedure. Patients are generally recommended to two BBL treatments a year for proper maintenance of results.

For treatment of sun damaged skin, age spots and redness

Broadband Light (BBL™) technology utilizes the power of pulsed light to improve a variety of skin conditions. Light of various wavelengths is preferentially absorbed by the target (unwanted blue, brown, red, purple pigment) and converted to heat. This preferential heating enables dramatic improvement of pigment disturbances (e.g. dyschromia, hyperpigmentation, melasma), sun damage and vascular lesions (e.g. port wine stains, hemangiomas, rosacea, angiomas, telangiectasia).

With BBL™ technology different wavelengths of light are selected by using interchangeable filters that are recognized by the smart control system. Available filters include:

  • 420 nm – visible blue light used to activate Levulan® during photodynamic therapy (see Levulan® Photodynamic Therapy)
  • 515 nm – visible yellow light used to target brown-black pigment (solar lentigenes or sun spots, hyperpigmentation, etc)
  • 560 nm – visible yellow-green light used to target surface redness and vascular lesions
  • 590 nm – visible green-orange light used to target deeper vascular lesions
  • 640 and 695 nm – visible orange light used for reduction of unwanted hair
  • 800 – 1400 nm – infrared (invisible) light used to gently heat collagen in the deeper skin layers (see SkinTyte™ Skin Tightening)

The system also incorporates powerful cooling technology to ensure that the treatment areas safe and cool.

The most common treatment areas include the face, neck, hands, chest, shoulders and extremities – areas that are typically most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun. While a series of treatments are typically required for optimum results dramatic improvement is possible with a single treatment.

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is an exciting technology utilizing broadband light, which removes pigmented and vascular lesions to improve your complexion. Most people perceive the light as a gentle “snapping” sensation, which causes little or no discomfort. You can correct brown spots caused by years of sun damage or aging along with superficial blood vessels in a few quick and easy sessions. (It is incredibly effective for rosacea as well).

The Enhanced Photo-Facial

A combination of Botox, IPL and/or Microdermabrasion enhances the effects of a single procedure alone. While Botox improves the appearance of active wrinkles, a series of photofacials and microdermabrasion reduce pigment and produce additional collagen for smoother and clearer skin.
