Radiesse is an injectable treatment that can help reverse signs of facial aging by supporting tissues of the face and by filling in the facial folds and wrinkles. This simple procedure takes minutes to perform in the office and can leave you looking years younger.
Radiesse, previously known as Radiance, is a dermal filler that consists of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in soft gel. Radiesse works to immediately restore facial volume while smoothing away folds and wrinkles. Once injected, it acts as a scaffold under the skin while stimulating the production of your body’s own supply of collagen. Collagen production continues for months after treatments, which helps to extend the benefits of an initial treatment. Over time, the gel in the solution is absorbed by your body, and the CaHA microspheres are metabolized. This leaves behind only your own collagen.
Results from this procedure have been clinically shown to last a year or longer in many patients. It is possible for results to last up to three years, depending on the severity of the wrinkles treated and the treatment area. This is the only wrinkle filler that will immediately replenish lost volume while stimulating production of collagen.
Radiesse volumizing filler can be used to treat the following moderate to severe signs of aging:
- Smile lines, or nasolabial folds, which run from the corners of the nose to the mouth
- Marionette lines, which run from the corners of the mouth downward
- Corners of the mouth that turn downward and make it seem you are frowning
- Pre-jowls on the sides of the chin where skin is sagging due to lost volume in the face
- Chin wrinkles that run horizontally
Radiesse is not used in the lips or close to the eyes. Other dermal fillers may be used to treat these areas.
Radiesse Treatment Process
Radiesse is injected under the skin in a short safe procedure that typically takes less than 15 minutes. The solution contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that makes Radiesse injections almost painless for most people.
Results of the treatment will be visible immediately. Natural-looking results may last up to year or longer, depending on patient factors such as metabolism. Patients may return to work and resume normal activities shortly after treatment but mild to moderate (and in some cases more significant) temporary swelling may occur.
Temporary side effects such as mild swelling, redness, bruising and/ or tenderness at the injection sites may occur. Such effects generally resolve within a few days. Bruising may be minimized by avoiding medications and supplements that may prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and vitamin E.
Are You a Candidate?
There is no right age for Radiesse injections. Ideal candidates are men and women who want natural-looking and long-lasting results to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Patients with severe allergies or hypersensitivity to the components of Radiesse may not be good candidates. There is almost no risk of allergic reaction with this procedure, however. The main ingredient, calcium hydroxylapatite, is found naturally in the body and unlikely to trigger a reaction.
